Smart snacks for Good Mood

Snacking can make or break our intentions to eat better and feel good. Having a snack between meals can help keep our energy levels consistent and regulate our mood and appetite throughout the day. A telltale sign of needing a snack between meals is coming home from work and having the urge to eating anything and everything in sight.

If you find yourself hungry, a sure-fire way to smarter snacking and staying satisfied is to choose something which combines fibre and protein. These two nutrients are fantastic for keeping us feeling fuller for longer. If you need to up the fullness-factor, consider adding some healthy fat to the mix.

Here are some of our favourite ideas to get you started:

  • A tub of greek yoghurt topped with mango and crushed macadamia nuts

  • Grainy crackers topped with avocado and a boiled egg

  • A handful of roasted chickpeas

  • Cucumbers or capsicium sliced lengthways filled with a can of tuna or ricotta and seasoned with cracked pepper

  • Our Choc-Chip Cookie Dough Balls

  • DIY rice paper rolls stuffed with sliced carrots, zucchini and any fresh herbs sitting in the bottom of your crisper alongside leftover cooked chicken or tofu. Make a tasty dipping sauce by combining any nut butter with soy sauce and a bit of water to thin out.
